Biodiversity Conservation (Terrestrial and Marine Protected Area) Planning

Dobbin Planning Group—through Dobbin International Inc—completed the first US National Marine Sanctuary Management plans in the early 80's sand has proven itself a leader in the industry—preparing numerous terrestrial and marine biodiversity planning projects. Dobbin led the way for coherent and effective management planning worldwide through selection studies of numerous national parks and protected areas in Canada, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the Caribbean Region. Dobbin Planning Group led and wrote numerous GEF biodiversity projects involving over $40 million in funds for Guyana, Malawi, Cuba, and the Gulf of Guinea (GEF International Waters).

Since 1991, Dobbin International has led 60 agencies and over 500 people in Cuba in a strategic plan for the 75,000 km2 Sabana-Camaguey Ecosystem Region involving five provinces, over 2,500 islands and 475 km of coastline. The project identified areas of high biodiversity and then developed a revised approach to tourism development that protects these critical areas and relies on rehabilitating the coastal villages and towns as potential tourism centers.

The unique spatial development strategies approach helps integrate a broad range of scientific data to identify critical coastal and marine habitats. This results in holistic and integrated management plans.
