Dobbin Planning Group's work spans the globepreparing national
ICM strategies and plans for China,
Indonesia, Albania, Saudi Arabia, Oman and
India and regional and local level ICM strategies
and plans for Cuba,
Egypt, Madagascar, and Mozambique.
These multi-sectoral projects involve both land and marine ecosystems
and are often watershed based.
We
identify both areas of high biodiversity and areas of high sensitivity,
as well as important ecological processes. At the same time, we
identify areas of significant economic development potential across
multiple sectors. Through our unique spatial and issue analyses
processes, we identifyconflicts and compatibilities and design a
framework that supports long term development of the coasts-enhancing
people's lives and helping them to help themselves and take charge
of their future.
In
China,
we set the model for coastal zone management in a series of municipalities
in four provinces. The Chinese have adapted and expanded this approach
throughout China's coastal zone. In India, we set up pilot
projects to assist the GOI in developing its new ICM program at
both the national and state levels. In Indonesia, we identified
the most degraded coastal zones in the country and established a
$300 million investment program to remediate and solve the major
issues. In Albania, we successfully combined biodiversity
protection, environmental restoration, sustainable tourism approaches
and land use planning to prepare a new vision, concept, and strategy
to both conserve and develop the coast.
