that Work
We
find that publications provide valuable continuing access to knowledge
and practice, and serve as a vital tool for strengthening economic
governance. For that reason, we pay particular attention to developing
written products.
IBI
conducted intensive training programs for Moldovan community leaders.
Using IBI's community development training manual, A Guide for Planning
Civic Education and Action Campaigns, we trained participants to
identify community needs and to design and implement strategic plans
that address those needs. Participants learned to conduct both informal
information gathering exercises and formal focus group research
for needs assessment and decision-making. Moldovan leaders learned
to develop and implement communications campaigns for their communities
as a means of generating support for a particular development plan.
Written materials are scarce for African women wishing to start
or improve their own businesses. IBI drafted manuals (Run My Own
Business? Yes, I can!) which provide detailed guidance for women
registering and operating businesses in six countries. When Ukrainian
Orange Revolution government leaders rapidly needed a new agricultural
policy, an IBI-assisted team conducted six studies which were published
in book form in the Ukrainian language as a means of engaging public
debate.
