Successful economic growth cannot be achieved in a vacuum—many other cross-cutting factors affect progress. In the context of the USAID-funded East and Central African Trade Hub Project IBI developed strategies to address the affect of environment, HIV/AIDS, and gender issues on trade promotion and investment strategies, The gender strategy helps strengthen the role of women in trade by mainstreaming gender throughout the Trade Hub's activities. The environmental and HIV/AIDS strategy proposed companion activities to reduce the impact of physical and health on trade activities.
