TVIG's approach to distributed development provides complete solutions for towns of 1,000 to 100,000 people. IIPs are low in cost and can be installed quickly. The power units are fueled by the cheapest most reliable fuel sources locally available, combined with a maximum usage of renewable hydro and solar energy. To help a community take advantage of the services provided, IBI works with each client or community to prepare a community business development plan. We use local materials to the maximum and invite local communities to invest as shareholders in the utility.

Financing

  • Sold on a turnkey basis
  • Purchase as public of private utility company
  • Return on investment estimated at 20-30% per year
  • Joint equity investment available through a variety of Energy Equity Funds, US and International Financial Institution programs, and commercial and investment banks, so that local investors typically are expected to contribute only 10 to 25 percent of the total capital cost.

Example Units

Small IIP™
Capital costs vary depending on the modules needed and their capacity. As a rule of thumb, a $100,000 local capital investment can procure a $1 million unit, providing, for a population of about 7000:

  • 1 MW of electricity,
  • 120,000 liters/day of pure water,
  • an office services/business center with 8 cellular phone booths using prepaid cards,
  • a market structure with 20 vendor stalls and a separate facility for ice-production and cold storage,
  • two 10-meter head irrigation pumps,
  • 20 kilometers of improved access road, resurfaced with UBIX10 DuraRoad, and
  • a small primary care clinic facility with telemedicine capability.

Large IIP™
Units can be sized to serve cities up to about 100,000 population and mines, factories or tourism projects requiring 25 MW or more of electricity. For a town of 75,000 inhabitants, a $2 million local investment would buy a $20 million package, including:

  • 20 MW of electricity, provided by two 10 MW combustion turbines,
  • a waste-heat unit operating off waste heat from the combustion turbines,
  • a three-cell cellular telephone system,
  • a wastewater processing system,
  • five market structures with vendor stalls, ice manufacture and cold storage,
  • a fully outfitted surgical hospital with 50 beds.
