UBIX 10 DuraRoad
Technical

NONPOLLUTING OF WATERWAYS:

Testing under EPA 600/4-89/001 entitled "Short Term Methods for Estimating the Chronic Toxicity of Effluents and Receiving Waters to Freshwater Organisms" showed no harmful effects on aquatic life.

BIODEGRADABILITY:

When evaluated under EPA Regulation 4OCFR 796.3260 UBIX was found to have a biodegradability level of 60% in 10 days and a 98.28% level in 26 days.

TOXIN FREE:

UBIX Soil Compaction Agent contains no toxic substances or harsh chemicals, its formulation is based on proprietary enzyme formulations manufactured from natural organic materials.   The compounds produced are non-hazardous to people, animals or aquatic life, and are non-corrosive, biodegradable, nonflammable and incapable of auto-ignition  Independent laboratory tests have shown that UBIX will cause no Acute Dermal Toxicity, Primary Eye Irritation, Acute Oral Toxicity, or Primary Skin Irritation. All testing was conducted under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act under Consumer Product Safety Commission Guidelines in accordance with Good Laboratory Standard Practices. Copies of all test reports are available on request to qualified clients.

UBIX 10 DuraRoad contains no citrus or pine oils to cause worker discomfort, allergic reactions or headaches. No protective outerwear, goggles, masks or boots are required. UBIX is easily rinsed from clothing. Should a spill occur, simply flush away.

RESULTS OF TESTING:

1. California Bearing Ratio (CBR) – ASTM D 1883

        a. Increased CBR 50 – 200% over the use of plain water.

        b. Higher CBRs will result depending upon soil type and moisture levels.

2. Atterberg Limit – ASTM D4318

        No effect

3. Hydraulic Conductivity ASTM D5084

        Slight Increase

4. Unconfined Compressive Test ASTM D2166

Significant Increase in unconfined compressive strength at optimum moisture.

5. Standard Proctor – ASTM D 698A

Slight increase and 2-point reduction in moisture content at density point.

APPLICATION METHODS:

It is good engineering practice to obtain as much geotechnical information as possible pertaining to the natural materials available at the proposed construction site prior to beginning the project. Soil materials available at the construction site determine the water/UBIX dilution most appropriate for that particular roadway.

For economy in transportation, storage and handling, UBIX 10 DuraRoad is sold only as a concentrate. Normally, the Soil Compaction Agent is mixed with water upon its arrival at the construction site. However, if water is not readily available at the site, UBIX 10 DuraRoad can be premixed with water and transported to the construction site in the ready-to-use condition.

Using a water truck, the admixture is applied evenly by spray bar, then thoroughly and evenly blended by blading action into the prepared 6-8 inch deep roadbed base. This ensures an even mixture of UBIX/Water and soil. The roadbed is then firmly compacted by a heavy roller or other such equipment to achieve the proper density. Although hydrogel characteristics will develop within 24 hours, the roadbed should be allowed to cure undisturbed for at least 72 hours.

Once the soil mass becomes thoroughly wetted, it begins to immediately react with the humus present in the soil. Consistently superior compaction occurs by the elimination of dry layers within the layers of compacted materials. As the reaction proceeds, a hydrogel condition develops to stabilize and to form a cementious binder between the particles and grains of the soil which will develop substantial strength within one (1) to three (3) hours at temperatures between 50-90°F (10-33°C).

During grading, the road should be carefully crowned and shaped to allow proper drainage. The early-developed hydrogel characteristics minimize the penetration of moisture and the swelling of clay. It reduces permeability and enhances unconfined compression strength. The treated roadbed will be highly resistant to water migration and to penetration within 30 minutes following compaction.

A successful project will depend on good construction practices, an optimum amount of moisture, the proper ratio of UBIX 10 DuraRoad to the type of soil present and professional roadway engineering expertise.

QUANTITY DETERMINATIONS:

For economy in transportation, UBIX 10 DuraRoad is sold as a concentrate and must be mixed with water (clean or dirty) prior to use. Water activates the enzymes present. Where water is unavailable, the product can be shipped ready-mixed to the construction site without affecting the quality of the Compaction Agent. To determine the quantity of the UBIX/Water compacting agent required, project dimensions (including depth, emergency lanes, and/or shoulders) must be known.

    General Guidelines:

  • One gallon of UBIX 10 DuraRoad can stabilize approximately 68 meters of road 8 meters wide and 20 centimeters deep.
  • As an average, one 55-gallon drum of UBIX 10 DuraRoad can produce 3.5 to 4km of road.
